Description
The Sovtek 6550WE is widely regarded as the benchmark current-production 6550, chosen by Audio Research Corporation as the factory-fitted valve in many of their amplifiers. Manufactured by Sovtek in Russia, these are assembled to tight tolerances and subjected to rigorous quality control before leaving the factory.
The 6550 is a high-power beam tetrode capable of producing up to 35W per valve, making it ideal for push-pull amplifiers delivering 100W or more. Its balanced combination of power, reliability, and tonal authority has made it a favourite for both high-end hi-fi and bass guitar amplification. Ampeg’s SVT bass amplifiers use eight of this type.
