Description
The Tung-Sol 6550 is a current-production reissue of the iconic type 3 6550 first introduced by Tung-Sol in the mid-1950s — the valve that helped define high-fidelity amplification in America. With a 42W plate dissipation rating and triple getter construction, it faithfully recreates the original’s punchy lows, rich mids and exceptional clarity.
The 6550 has a distinguished history: a pair in push-pull configuration can deliver up to 100W output, and the type has been used in amplifiers by Ampeg, Dynaco, McIntosh, Audio Research, Sunn and even certain Marshall models. The carbonised screen and gold-plated grid minimise grid emission for greater long-term reliability.
Manufactured at the Reflektor plant in Saratov, Russia. Equivalent to KT88 (check compatibility). Suitable for both Hi-Fi and bass amplifier use. Pairs and quads also available. Single valve — precision current and transconductance tested.
