Description
The 5693 is a ruggedised, long-life variant of the 6SJ7 metal-envelope pentode, produced by major American manufacturers including RCA and Sylvania for computer and industrial applications. Its extended life rating and tight construction tolerances have made it a sought-after substitute for the 6SJ7 in audio applications.
The 6SJ7 / 5693 family was widely used in early hi-fi preamplifiers and phono stages, where its low noise and high gain made it well suited to moving-magnet cartridge amplification. Metal-envelope examples offer enhanced shielding compared to glass-envelope equivalents.
Octal base, metal envelope. USA manufacture. Supplied as a single valve, new old stock.
