Mullard’s ECC81 / 12AT7 from their Blackburn factory is among the most highly regarded of all 12AT7-family valves for audio use. Used as a phase splitter in push-pull amplifiers, as a driver, and in the input stage of many classic Hi-Fi designs, the Mullard ECC81 is noted for its low noise, smooth character, and extended operating life.
NOS Mullard examples are increasingly difficult to source and command a premium for good reason — they remain the benchmark against which new-production 12AT7 types are measured.
