Description
The RCA 5842 is a New Old Stock high-transconductance, low-noise triode made in the USA and widely prized among audiophiles for its exceptional performance in demanding preamp and driver applications.
Originally designed for grounded-grid use in wideband amplifiers, the 5842 has a transconductance of approximately 25,000 µmhos, a low plate resistance of around 1,700 ohms and an amplification factor of 43 — characteristics that make it a natural choice for phono preamplifier input stages, 300B driver stages and linestage preamplifiers. It is equivalent to the 417A (Western Electric designation), CK5842, F7004 and the British military CV3789.
Gold pins provide a reliable, low-oxidation connection. Nickel plate. Single valve — price includes one valve.
