The RCA 6AC7W / 6AJ7 is a New Old Stock sharp-cutoff RF/IF pentode on an octal base, made in the USA by RCA. The ‘W’ suffix denotes military-grade specification, indicating enhanced mechanical and electrical reliability under demanding conditions.
Originally designed for RF and IF amplifier stages in communications equipment, the 6AC7 has been embraced by audiophiles as an excellent preamp valve, valued for its high transconductance, detailed presentation and low noise. It is equivalent to the British CV849 military designation.
